Sheri has done it all at CFIO. She started with Personal Training. She then went straight into our Guns, Buns, and Abs program. She did our 28 Day Nutrition Challenge. Now she is enrolled in our Barbell Program. There is literally nothing Sheri can’t do!
Always eager to learn, Sheri is very conscious of her movement and efficiency when she is in the gym. As you read in her story below, she has grown so much in her athletic ability since starting CFIO and we couldn’t be prouder!
We asked her a few questions about why she continues to choose CFIO:
How has CrossFit Inside Out changed your lifestyle?
It’s crazy to think of it, but CFIO has changed my lifestyle immensely. Before, my days were hanging around the house, working all hours sitting in the chair at the computer or being the “professional couch potato” watching TV. These days, I totally envision going to the gym when I first wake up. I’m planning my work day so I can leave in time to get to the gym instead of remaining steadfast in my chair, glued to the computer and working late. I’m much more cognizant of my meals at the outset of my day and during times when I’m away, and even when I’m shopping. I know how grueling it can be to row 100 calories, so eating that pepperoni slice is great – but I know it takes quite a bit of work to move the calories, so I think about my meals more often and incorporate new recipes and healthier options. Additionally, I feel more accomplished when I work out. Clear-headed, if you will, and inspired that I made it through another WOD even if I didn’t totally crush it. I’m always improving and doing what I can, which is much more than sitting on the couch or at the computer working. I proudly say that I enjoy the comradery and friendships I’ve encountered along my fitness journey as well within CrossFit and Emerge. This drives my accountability as well. CFIO is my new hobby and I feel so much better now that this is now incorporated into a lifestyle change for me! How cool is that??!!
What was your first impression of CFIO?
My first impression of CFIO was “extremely friendly and inviting!!” I remember walking in for my No Sweat Intro and was in awe the CrossFit class going on all the while a few coaches sticking out their hands, introducing themselves, and making me feel welcome and directing me where to go. I still see that today when a “newbie” comes in….the coaches are amazing and truly make CFIO very inviting!!
What’s been the biggest change you’ve seen since starting CrossFit Inside Out?
I believe the biggest change I’ve seen thus far has been my body definition. I’m more defined and less flabby – and yes, I do talk about these things! I can tell that I’ve replaced some fat with lean muscle. 🙂 I’m not “cut” just yet, and that is something I’ll continue to work towards, but I feel and see that I’m a more defined than I was 6+ months ago. My goal was not entirely to lose weight but to rather incorporate a healthy level of physical fitness in my life where there was literally none. Additionally, my strength has improved as well. Before I could barely pick up the bar, and now I’m pushing it around with more ease and weight added. I know running/rowing is still a challenge for me; however, I’m taking baby steps and slowly improving in that realm.
What are you working on right now?
At present, I’m working on strength and skill in the Barbell Program under Coach Brian. This has been very exciting and engaging for me as I enjoy the program overall, the slow-mo video analysis, and 1:1 instruction from Coach Brian. I’m still working on my imperfections and look forward to better strength and skill with the bar!
What’s your favorite CFIO memory?
Gosh! I actually have a few personal ones. The first – my attempts during a workout where we had to climb the rope. I remember Brandon instructing and teaching us the solid techniques to make it up the rope by using your feet wrapped around the bottom of the rope to push you up. It must have been an EMOM as I recall going to the rope over and over and not advancing whatsoever! Forgive me as I don’t recall who it was making their first attempt as well and made it up the rope around the 3rd to 4th try – I stood there envious! It was the last minute and I tried and tried, and it was not until the bitter end when the time was up that I was making my way up like a little monkey all the way to the top. I found my footing and strode right up the rope, Brandon catching sight of this as he began yelling and clapping with the class. Yes!!! I made it and touched the top!! I was thrilled, to say the least. Now, coming down was rather quick and I did incur a few minor hand burns, but nothing that blistered. Overall, I was so elated!!!
I have to say that my second favorite personal memory was related to the Barbells for Boobs. Having left my house early enough (so I thought) to get to CFIO for the planned workout, I found myself stuck in traffic for 1.25 hours due to the triathlon. I made it to CFIO during the last heat. Yes, I was bummed, to say the least. Coach Brandon came to me and asked if I wanted to work out. I was stunned. Both he and Alyssa Graham joined in one of the barbell workouts to run alongside me having already completed their own workouts earlier. I was very humbled beyond words, and many others were still in the gym clapping and cheering us on while we worked through the WOD. I had that overwhelming sense of happiness and belonging. What can I say, CFIO is the gym that finds your happy!!
