Bump. Set. Spike! – Ashley Brennan

Ashley has been around since almost the beginning of CFIO. She is tough, sweet, and one of our favorite people. 

Ashley uses CrossFit as a training protocol to get better at recreational volleyball. Sometimes, she will leave straight from CrossFit to go compete in a volleyball match! 

We love watching her compete inside the gym. She has just enough of a competitive mentality to make her one of the best athletes in the gym, but she is so down-to-earth that she knows that solely “winning” the workout of the day and being towards the top of the leaderboard isn’t what CrossFit is all about. 

A teacher by day, CrossFitting Volleyball athlete by night, Ashley can do it all! 

We asked her a few questions about why she continues to choose CFIO:

How has CrossFit Inside Out changed your lifestyle?

CFIO has changed my lifestyle in so many ways! Before joining CFIO, I always viewed working out as something I “had” to do to be able to stay in shape. Yes, I enjoyed working out but I viewed it almost like it was a job. After just a few weeks at CFIO, it didn’t feel like a job anymore, but more like a hobby. I planned my day around my workout and always look forward to going. The coaches are amazing and I always look forward to Brandon yelling: “Brennan…keep going!” “Brennan…get lower!” “Brennan….your sister went faster!” 😊

My eating lifestyle has changed as well! I used to always just workout to eat what I want but wanted to see results (well that was never going to work!). So many people at the box are such healthy eaters and have motivated me to do the same. I periodically get off track, but not like I use to!

What was your first impression of CFIO?

When I first entered CFIO, my first impression was “Wow! Everything is so clean, neat, and tidy!” My first class was at noon with Jon and Amanda, and Andrea was our coach. It was a very inviting atmosphere with a small class size.

What’s been the biggest change you’ve seen since starting CrossFit Inside Out?

The biggest change that I have seen is my energy level (and my traps!). When working out regularly and eating healthy, I have noticed an increase in energy level and can keep up with my 6-year old son! My performance in volleyball has also been a big change! I used to get winded very easily and take frequent breaks just to catch my breath. Now sometimes I work out before I go play!

What are you working on right now?

Right now, I am working on my grip strength and toes-to-bar. I would like to be able to consistently hold onto the bar for more than 4 pull-ups and be able to string my toes-to-bar together.

What’s your favorite CFIO memory?

It’s hard to choose just one!!! My favorite CFIO memory would have to be the last partner workout with my sister before she gave birth (3 days later!). It’s so much fun to have my other half to work out with (and compete against) 😊
