Dogs and Deadlifts! – Chrissy Libby

Chrissy is a very special person. She always comes to the gym happy. In her answers below we asked her what she wants to work on the most and she answered “consistency”. Chrissy is one of the most consistent people we have here at CFIO. She is very, very strong and so humble!

Chrissy will be the first to encourage and her loving spirit makes her so fun to be around!

Her smile lights up the room and we absolutely love having her as a member of the CFIO family! She has seen such great progress since she started with us back earlier this year!

We asked her a few questions about why she continues to choose CFIO:

How has CrossFit Inside Out changed your lifestyle?

I have started eating to support fitness, not to diet, or count calories. I have started to see food as fuel and am able to notice the difference in my performance, good and bad. Meal preparation is now routine and I have started to enjoy physical activity, in the gym and in daily life. I now look forward to opportunities to exercise and actually choose walking, jogging and getting up early to go the beach over sleeping in or watching TV. I have also learned to love a rest day and not feel guilty for allowing balance.

What was your first impression of CFIO?

I was very lucky to have Alyssa as my coach for the foundations class. She, and everyone I encountered, was extremely friendly and encouraging. I was impressed, not only by how knowledgeable she was, but how seamlessly she was able to scale the workouts and movements to my fitness and experience level while still coaching me through a tough but fun workout. As someone who started in a place of poor fitness, the thought of “looking stupid” or not fitting in is at the front of your mind. I felt accepted immediately, and that made it easy to keep coming back.

What’s been the biggest change you’ve seen since starting CrossFit Inside Out?

I am notably stronger in every aspect of my life. CrossFit is functional fitness. I have a job that requires a lot of lifting and standing for long periods of time. I do not hesitate to safely lift a large dog onto an exam table or carry a sleeping patient across the room. I have less pain in my back and feet at the end of a long day. CrossFit has also improved my mental toughness. Some of the workouts we do are as mentally trying as they are physically. I find myself less afraid to try new or difficult things, and I am more afraid of not trying than failing. I have definitely lost weight and, more significantly, lost inches and a few clothing sizes but I also don’t care as much what the number on the scale says. I am in love with sore muscles, better energy, less anxiety and sleeping better.

What are you working on right now?

My biggest focus is on consistency. I want to make coming to class a habit. I want to continue to improve and not let anything stop me from showing up and putting in the work.

What’s your favorite CFIO memory?

The first time I did a workout as prescribed. There will always be workouts that I will need to scale, but doing a workout with the same weights and movements as everyone else and being able to finish is a great moment. I think the coach was as excited as I was.
